“When I started training at Contenders I was 48
and figured that my athletic days were far behind me. Little did I realize that some of my best years were still ahead of me. I started showing up twice a week. After a few months I was ‘twisting’ on the dance floor and discovered that I could twist up and fully down repeatedly without any problem. Hadn’t done that since high school. A friend asked me to play over 40 soccer. I would have declined a couple of years earlier, but I went out and played a full season, enjoying every minute of it. Hadn’t done that since 1977.  My one year anniversary will be May 2010.  I started when I was 39 yrs old and wanted to get rid of that darn "muffin top" before I hit the big "40". Well, Contenders is awesome, not only did I lose weight within 3 months of starting, 10 lbs! But I could still eat Chocolate and enjoy my wine.. daily!  Yes, the only work out that allows you to continue to eat what you wish (of course in moderation) and still remain slim and toned!  Working out with the Contenders team, has improved my confidence and cardio level.  The classes are not easy, but definitely exciting, fun, and totally worth it.  Contenders offers you the best challenge, you will ever face.  My best advice.... is sign up now!  The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome so my running coach says! He also tells us that in order to achieve an extraordinary level of fitness we need to strive for extraordinary exercises, which challenges us to step out of our level of comfort. I have been a long distance runner for over 30 years and definitely I am not a boxer but a running addict.

I have trained with Contenders for over 12 years now, and in that time I have noticed a tremendous improvement in my strength, agility, co-ordination muscle tone and overall fitness all result from boxing. I am also surprised at how much more speed and explosiveness I have in running. Contenders has given me skills I never thought I would have, and a level of confidence I can take into other areas of life. But much more important than any of that, it's given me many hours of fun. Anyone who is looking for both a great workout and superior technical instruction need to look no further than Contenders.

Many people think that boxing is all about the arms but it is actually a cardio work-out for the whole body. It’s especially good for toning your bottom and quadriceps muscles, which is perfect for us women. Really! There’s no need to worry about bulking up. So you’ll see tone rather than muscle.

The Instructors are very professional and very down to earth. They explain everything in a detail and encourage through the entire class. The classes are well structured and a level that we can keep up with. Techniques are taught in a simple and effective way.

I’ve worked out at Contenders for a little over 2 years and the results I have achieved since joining are incredible.  I can honestly say I have never felt stronger and healthier in my life.  I have incredible energy, my balance and flexibility have improved immensely and I’ve got great new toned muscles!

I wanted to write a BIG THANK YOU for teaching me boxing for the past 5 years.

The classes were fast - paced, fun, and I always learned something new about boxing skills. Now that I 'm in Kelowna, it'll be difficult to find instructors who approach each class with such enthusiasm.

Oh, at least before I moved, I had a chance to spar in the ring during Fight Night 8. One of my fond memories with Contenders!
